Tyrrhenian coast, Amantea is highly placed on the
list of Calabria's prettiest towns. It is one of the
Cosenza Province's most attractive, well-laid-out
and picturesque towns with a rich and fascinating
history having been occupied by many different
nationalities from an Arabian strong-hold, Greeks,
Romans and the Byzantines, who built a castle on the
hill above Amantea to protect the town – this can
still be seen today.
Set against a backdrop of mountains, Amantea, today
is a busy town with all the modern amenities:
variety of shops and boutiques, café bars,
restaurants/pizzeria, gelatarias, pharmacies, post
office etc. this blends well with the charming old
historical centre where you can meander through the
traditional narrow streets and enjoy the true feel
of Calabria, enjoy an ice cream in one of the famous
gelatieria of the area and from the kerbside seats
overlook the marina town and spectacular views of
the sea and coastline. The marina beach front offers

walking, pony trekking, quad bikes and in the winter
months, skiing. Areas of archaeological interest are
within easy reach including the museum housing the
Bronzes of Riace at Reggio Calabria. Close by are
the Thermal Springs at Guardia Piemontese offering
curative mineral waters and mud baths for a variety
of conditions with the Terme Luigiane providing Spa
treatments from May to October. Located at the Grand
Hotel San Michele at Cetraro, approx. 40 mins drive
north there is a 9-hole golf course.
